***Membership only available to PhD students in their final year who have defended
their proposal, made substantial progress on their
dissertation, and are ready to be on the job market. If you are a first year, please email William.Scarborough@unt.edu for more information.***
The department will pay for students’ ASA membership for one year during their time in the program with the aim of supporting their professional development and job search efforts. The primary purpose of this sponsored membership is to provide students with access to the ASA Job Bank, the main repository for sociology faculty job posting.
PhD students should request ASA membership for the calendar year they will be going on the job market and applying for faculty positions. This should be their last year in the program. ASA memberships are good for one year from the date of purchase. For example, if you purchase a membership on August 1, it will be good through July 31 of the following year. Keep this in mind as you decide when to apply for a department-sponsored membership.
Academic jobs begin to be posted as early as August for positions starting the following fall semester (almost a year in advance). Jobs in this cycle will continue to be posted through the following spring. Please allow up to two weeks for your application to be processed and your membership (if approved) to begin.
