SOCI 5203/6203 Social Science Text Mining

Text mining and text analysis methods for the social sciences. Covers principles of research design and ethics as they apply to text-based research, and major methodologies within social science text mining including topic models and opinion mining.

INSD 5200 Digital Social Science

Data from digital technologies allow us to gain unprecedented insights into human behavior, social networks, and social inequalities. This course introduces students to the social dimensions of digital technologies, surveys empirical social science research on major social challenges associated with contemporary digital technologies and offers students new possibilities of how to study society using digital research tools.

INSD 5210 Theories of the Information Society

This course provides the intellectual foundations for the Digital Sociology Graduate Certificate. The course surveys the most influential social science theoretical frameworks that have been developed 1) to facilitate analysis of the social impacts of information technologies, and 2) as new paradigms for conducting empirical research with internet-based data.

INSD 5220 Digital Research Methods

This course provides the methodological foundations for the Digital Sociology Graduate Certificate. The course surveys the most widely used contemporary digital social research methods.
